Personal Logo 2018 Redesign: Case Notes and Process

In 2018 I redesigned my personal logo in Adobe Illustrator for use on my website and for print and digital media.

Case Notes:
  • The original SVG logo design was crisp, responsive with a typeface that is based on my own handwriting
  • I wanted an updated version that kept those qualities while appearing a little sleeker and more "digital"

Original (2015) Logo

Previous iteration created in 2015 using Adobe illustrator and a custom typeface.

Current (2018) Logo

Current iteration with a crisper, more "digital" looking line quality which more accurately matches the site's overall content and style.

Revision Process:

Step 1: Tracking Evolution

Evolution of personal website header logo since 2020, used identify and establish a trend towards clean lines and simplification.

Step 2: Develop a Custom Typeface

Developing a custom typeface on 1cm graph paper.

Step 3: Create Vector Line Art

Creating vector lines in Adobe Draw which were imported and edited in Illustrator.

Step 4: Creating Variations

Exporting multiple artboards from Illustrator to create logo variations for testing.

Step 5: Elimination

Using process of elimination to narrow the final selection pool.

Step 6: Final Revision

Once settled on a final design, final line and shape and kerning adjustments are made.
